Summary (for convenience — the full policy below governs): SlipRead is built device-first. Without an account, your words, notes, and history stay on your iPhone — lookups send only the word (and sentence) to dictionary/AI services. If you choose to create an account, your Word Bank and review progress are backed up to our cloud database (Google Firebase) so you can sync across devices — and you can delete it in-app anytime.

When you look up or get a definition for a word, the following is sent to third-party services to return a result:
Without an account, we do not send your saved words, notes, photos, scan history, or usage statistics to any server, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. If you create an account, your Word Bank and notes are backed up to our cloud database as described in “If you create an account (backup & sync)” below.
Creating an account is optional. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we back up your Word Bank and review progress to our cloud database so you can sync across devices.
What we store: your email address and sign-in provider (Apple or Google), a user ID, your Word Bank words, personal notes, Korean translations, study-goal tags, and your review/FSRS study history (grades, timestamps, and scheduling state), plus sync timestamps.
Who processes it: Google Firebase acts as our data processor, and your account data is stored in Google Firestore (Google’s cloud database), governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
Deletion: you can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Profile → Delete Account, two taps). This permanently deletes your cloud backup, including your synced Word Bank, notes, and review history. Signing out does NOT delete your cloud backup — your data remains stored until you delete your account.
This version of SlipRead is free and does not offer in-app purchases or subscriptions. If purchases are introduced in a future update, they would be processed by Apple via the App Store (StoreKit); we would not receive or store your name, payment-card details, or Apple ID. Apple’s handling of purchases is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Daily reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not push notifications and do not involve a server.
SlipRead is a general-audience learning app suitable for students of all ages, including younger learners. It is not directed to children under 13, and creating an account requires you to be 13 or older. Users under 13 can use every feature of the app without creating an account, with all data staying on their device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a user under 13 has created an account, we will delete it. Contact slipreadai@gmail.com.
Data on your device: you control it directly — delete individual saved words, notes, or history in the app, or remove all app data by deleting the app. Cached definitions expire automatically. Data in your account (if you create one): signing out of your account does NOT delete your cloud backup — it remains stored until you delete your account. You can permanently delete your account and its cloud backup at any time in Settings → Profile → Delete Account.
The dictionary/AI services above (Wikimedia, Google) may process the looked-up word/sentence on servers outside your country. If you create an account, your account data may be processed on Google’s global infrastructure as part of our use of Google Firebase and Firestore — see Google’s Privacy Policy. By using the lookup features, or by creating an account, you consent to that processing.

Without an account, we do not store any personal data about you on any servers we operate — your data stays on your device. If you create an account, we hold your account data (email address, user ID, Word Bank, personal notes, and review history) in Google Firestore, with Google Firebase acting as our data processor. The word and surrounding sentence you look up are also sent to our service providers — the Wikimedia Foundation (Wiktionary) and Google (Gemini API) — solely to return a definition, when and because you use the lookup feature (on the basis of your request and our legitimate interest in providing the feature). You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. For data on your device, you can access or delete it directly in the app. For account data, you can delete it via in-app account deletion (Settings → Profile → Delete Account). We do not sell or share your personal information, and we have not done so in the past 12 months. We do not use your information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we use no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. Without an account, SlipRead stores your data only on your device; the only information that leaves your device is the word (and, for AI definitions, the surrounding sentence) you choose to look up, which is sent to the dictionary and AI services described above only to return a result. If you create an account, your account data (Word Bank, notes, review history) is stored in Google Firestore and is deletable in-app at any time (Settings → Profile → Delete Account). California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information and not to be treated differently for exercising those rights.
